- Well, sure, I have been in Åland. The boat stopped suddenly in the middle of the night. I looked out of the window, but it was dark and you couldn’t see anything.

Out on the rocks you will find everything from Åland’s own maritime heritage to the Finnish superstars in design heaven. Everything from captain gardens to Space Age plastic house, ranging from home-made to design icons. Everything from foreign influences taken home to local designers who are exporting their ideas to distant lands.
Of course, the clash of cultures presented themselves, even though I thought I kvew my roots inside and out. What has the archipelago to give urban people beyond the most obvious as resort for a few short weeks in the summer? And what has big cities to give the archipelago?
Some answers and a salty way in to Aland, this book tells the story in a personal way, presented along with inspiring images.
